This letter was sent to all parents on Wednesday 21st June 2017, regarding changes to our caterers this summer.
As a school we continually review our process and procedures and consider ways of improving educational outcomes for all our pupils.
We have recently been considering the school day and have been reflecting on the effectiveness of the daily timetables that are currently in place. We believe that subtle changes could be made to the school day which will allow greater consolidation of learning and will hopefully help improve pupil attainment.
Currently pupils wait on the playground before entering school on a morning and the whole school enters together at 8.55am. Due to the number of pupils entering at the same time there is often congestion in cloakrooms and it takes a while for pupils to settle and get to their classrooms for morning registration. We therefore feel that this could be improved by pupils entering their individual classrooms from 8.45am so that they are in class and seated ready for registration at 8.50am. This will allow teachers the opportunity to set a morning activity which children can complete before registration closes at 9.00am.
During this year we have already implemented a change to morning break which is now from 10.30am to 10.45am for all our pupils.
We have reviewed the morning timetable and as there is academic research to suggest that children learn better in a morning, we propose to extend the morning session by 15mins so that lunchtime will be at 12.15pm. This will allow greater consolidation of teaching and learning during the morning lessons. Lunch will remain at an hour in duration and will be at the same time 12:15pm to 13:15pm for all pupils.
Afternoon registration will be at 1.15pm with a break for KS1 pupils only at 2.30pm. The school day will end slightly earlier at 3.15pm.
We plan to implement these changes to the school day timetable with effect from 1st September 2017.
From September 2017 the school day will be:-
From 08:45 Classroom doors open
08:50 – 9:00 Children to be in class for registration
09:00 Close of classroom doors and registration
CHILDREN ARRIVING AFTER 9.00am WILL NEED TO ENTER SCHOOL VIA THE MAIN ENTRANCE
09:00 – 09:14 CHILDREN ARRIVING BETWEEN THIS TIME WILL
BE MARKED AS LATE (L)
09:15 CHILDREN ARRIVING AFTER THIS TIME WILL BE MARKED AS UNAUTHORISED (U)
10:30 – 10:45 Morning Break
12:15 – 13:15 Lunch time
13:15 – 13:15 Afternoon Lessons
14:30 – 14:45 Afternoon Break (EYFS and KS1 Only)
15:15 END OF SCHOOL DAY
A range of after school clubs will run from 3:15 to 4:15 and will vary each half term.
We hope that you see the reasons for these changes and agree that they will be beneficial to improve the format of our school day and that you will work with us to ensure that they are implemented smoothly from September.
As always we welcome your comments and feedback so please feel free to see me or Mr Parkinson on the playground before or after school or send us an email via the parents forum email address which is email@example.com

New Police Community Support Officer (PCSO)
For your information Larks Hill have a new PCSO. His name is PC Dobson and he will be coming in on Thursday 22nd June to introduce himself to the children. His intention is to make weekly visits into school so that he can build up a positive relationship with Larks Hill Children.
He will also be making time to meet you, the parents/carers at the beginning or end of the school day. This will be a good opportunity for you to voice any concerns or issues with him on a face to face basis. Watch out for him when you bring or collect your children to or from school.
After School Clubs – A Polite Reminder
Could Parent/Carers please ensure that they arrive promptly at 4.30pm to pick up children from after school clubs.
I would also like to remind you that we will not send children off the premises to meet you at the gate or to a car on the main road. Children MUST be picked up at the collection point where the club leader will despatch your child to you.
Thank you for your co-operation
Mrs A Smith
